Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) candidate Shaili Oberoi has been elected as the new Mayor of Delhi.
He defeated his rival and BJP candidate Rekha Gupta by 34 votes. In the election held on Wednesday, Oberoi got 150 votes while Gupta could manage only 116 votes.

Oberoi became a councilor for the first time
Shaili Oberoi joined AAP in 2013 and is a corporator from East Patel Nagar (Ward 86) in Delhi. He had won over BJP candidate Deepali Kapoor by just 269 votes.
Oberoi contested the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections for the first time and surprised everyone by winning from the area dominated by former Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta.
Shelly has been an assistant professor in DU
Shaili Oberoi, 39, has been an assistant professor at Delhi University (DU). He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). He did his post graduation in commerce from Himachal Pradesh University.
A brilliant student, Shaili is also a life member of the Indian Commerce Association (ICA). He has also received many awards in various conferences at national and international level.

According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report, Shelly Oberoi has assets worth Rs 23.69 lakh.
According to the affidavit filed by Oberoi at the time of MCD elections, he has jewelery worth Rs 1.75 lakh and insurance worth Rs 8.86 lakh. Apart from this, he has total deposits of Rs 7.19 lakh in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies. He also has total cash of Rs.12,500.
Shelly had filed a petition in the Supreme Court
