On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, Bollywood actress and daughter of Saif Ali Khan and his first wife, actress Amrita Singh, Sara Ali Khan posted pictures on social media site Instagram with the message "Jai Bholenath". Sara is shown sitting in front of a picture of Lord Shiva in her post. However, this infuriated his Islamist supporters, who began criticizing him for participating in actions involving non-believers or infidels.
Sara Ali Khan soon started receiving harsh and derogatory comments from Islamists for disregarding Islamic principles and indulging in "shirk" when she posted Maha Shivratri wishes. For committing this "crime" of celebrating Maha Shivratri, many Islamists have vowed to unfollow it. She was mocked for wearing short skirts in her films, and was told that she was only technically Muslim. Some questioned whether she actually practiced Islam.

Another Muslim prayed to Allah to "guide him on the right path." Most of these people advised Sara Ali Khan to feel ashamed for sending wishes on the Hindu holiday. According to another Islamist, Sarah has not yet completed Hajj.
