Rafael Nadal backs Lionel Messi for best player of the year award

Laureus Apart from Rafael Nadal and Lionel Messi, some other players have also been nominated for the best player of the year award given by the foundation every year. Nadal himself has called Messi deserving of the title despite being nominated.
He wrote in his Instagram story, 'Lionel Messi you deserve it.'
Apart from Nadal and Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Max Verstappen (motor racing), Mondo Duplantis (athletics) and Stef Karr (basketball) have also been nominated.
Messi has already made a record regarding this award
Roger Federer has won the award for the most number of times since 2000. Federer is also the only player to win the award three years in a row.
Messi won the award in 2020 and for the first time this award was received by a player who plays in the team.
Apart from Messi, all those who have won this award play alone. Nadal has also won this award twice.
