He Pope Francisco today reminded the victims and those affected by the fires that shook the center of Chiliwhen greeting the Spanish-speaking faithful at the Wednesday general audience held in the Paul VI hall of the Vatican.

Chile is fighting for the fifth consecutive day against the wave of forest fires that are shaking the center of the country, the most tragic and devastating in decades, a fight for which it has requested international help.

The hundreds of active fires have left at least 26 dead, more than 1,500 homes destroyed and 270,000 hectares burned.
