British government came out in support of BBC in income tax survey case, minister said - editorial independence is necessary

Now the statement of the British Government has come on the action of the Income Tax Department on the Indian offices of BBC.

On Tuesday, a minister in the British Parliament said that editorial independence is very important and the matter has been taken up with the Indian government. It was said in Parliament that Britain is very proud of its freedom of the press.

Let us inform that last week the Income Tax Department had conducted a 'survey' on the offices of BBC in Mumbai and Delhi.

The matter is being constantly monitored – British Minister

David Ratley, a minister in the United Kingdom (UK) government, said that he has spoken to his Indian counterparts in this matter and is constantly monitoring it.

He said, "We have a wide and deep relationship with India. Because of this, we were able to talk to the Government of India on different issues in the past and are constantly monitoring this issue. We want the BBC to Necessary editorial freedom should be given."
