Bike taxi service banned in Delhi

Bike taxi service of Ola, Uber and Rapido, which made the transport of common people cheap and easy, will no longer be available in Delhi. The Transport Department of Delhi has issued a notice to these companies and has immediately banned the bike taxi service.

The reason behind this decision has been told that bike taxi service is against the rules. For this reason, this action has been taken by the Transport Department of the city.

Why was the ban imposed?

The transport department said in the notice that it has been brought to its notice that non-transport i.e. two-wheelers with private registration are being used for carrying passengers on hire, which is clearly a commercial activity. This is a violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Provision has been made for those who do not obey the new decision of the Transport Department, from fine to jail and suspension of driving license.

imprisonment with fine

The notice sent by the transport department clearly mentions that if riders (drivers) of Ola, Uber and Rapido continue to provide bike taxi service in Delhi, they will be fined Rs 5,000.

If found doing the same mistake for the second time or later, he can be punished with a fine of Rs 10,000 as well as jail.

Companies will be fined up to Rs 1 lakh

The official notice sent to the ride-sharing companies also said that if caught, the driver's license would be suspended for at least three years, while the fines for Ola, Uber and Rapido would be much higher.

As per the notice, a fine of Rs 1 lakh will be imposed under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 if they provide bike taxi service.

Newsbytes Plus

This latest move to ban bike taxi service comes just weeks after the Supreme Court banned Rapido services in Maharashtra and refused to give relief to such bike, taxi and auto service providers.

As per reports, the company was operating without a legal license in the state.

Bike taxi service is a convenience just like cab service. In this, bike is used instead of car for transportation.
