JNU Clash: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on Sunday accused the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) of tearing the portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. ABVP workers staged a protest accusing Left party workers of 'insulting' Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

ABVP workers said that Shivaji Maharaj's portrait was pasted on the walls of the Student Activity Center on Sunday. ABVP activists allege that a group of Left activists reached here and ransacked it.

ABVP JNU secretary made these allegations

ABVP JNU secretary Umesh Chandra Ajmera said, “Today is the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. We had painted Shivaji Maharaj's portrait on the walls outside the Student Activity Center as a tribute." Speaking to ANI, Ajmera alleged, “But the 'communists' of JNU could not digest it. People of '100 Flowers Group' and SFI came and vandalized the portrait of Shivaji Maharaj."

He further alleged that some of those involved in the incident were also outsiders and had entered the college premises without permission. He said that when we asked the accused who were creating ruckus to stop, they said that we will do so, we do not believe in him (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj), we only believe in Marxist and Leninist ideology.

ABVP workers demand action from JNU administration

Ajmera said that neither he could show his ID card. The ABVP secretary urged the JNU administration to take strict action against the accused and stop vitiating the atmosphere of the university.

Ajmera said, “We request the JNU administration to take strict action against the accused. We also urge the administration to stop illegal students from entering the campus and creating nuisance. These people should be stopped from maligning the name of the university."
